Dear Rocka readers,
This month I tried my hand at some concert photography (somewhat successfully) and wrote a little ditty about The James Hunter Six, which you can read here.

I’m packing up my stuff to move back to Michigan for the year and my bags are a lot like my music library: overwhelming when lumped together, but necessary for different times. It is moments like now when I thank whatever powers at be for streaming services. They’re far less glamorous than my records, but they’re a hell of a lot lighter. Physical copies of media serve as reminders of the space they take up, or have the potential to take up, in our heads. I like collecting both digitally and physically, keeping one foot in the air and one on the ground. There’s a fine balance to strike between not wanting to get bogged down and also wanting to have a certain weight to your life.
And I like when that weight translates into the metaphysical. Art has a way of staying in our body until we forget about it or have no use for it anymore, just like people. It’s all kind of the same matter when you prod at it long enough.

This month’s mix is a lot of feel good indie. Or even things that feel good despite being pretty sad. My spotlight track was sent to me by a friend and is called “Sweet Woman” by EJ Worland and A.J. Haynes. This song feels like what sharing fruit with another person feels like. Sweet, simple, and yet an evident display of intimacy. I’ve got Briston’s newest “Detonator” which once again confirms he is only going up, Cowboy Malfoy’s hauntingly cool track “How I’d Kill” and a dancey banger from LoveLeo “HEAD OVER HEELS.” Check it out and wherever you are, I hope your load (whether that be books, tunes, or folks) is light.
Rocka out,
Ally
