Dear Rocka readers,
Happy June! I’m writing to you from my very expensive bedroom in Los Angeles. I just arrived here yesterday after a three day road trip by myself. I am here for the summer doing some work but mostly going to shows (so send some along if you have ideas.)
My goal for this Substack is to be able to keep tabs on Rocka artists, publish a monthly playlist of what I’m listening to, and write some random *exclusive* bits that might not be main-site worthy. Consider this Rocka’s finsta.
So let’s get going.

This month we have Safari Room's sophomore album drop + feature, a celebration of Rocka Mag's 4th birthday, and Connor Kelly & the Time Warp evading my presence and touring in every city I am not in this summer.
This was such a fun one to write. I connected with Alec & was passively listening to the Soundcloud link sent through my contact page. “Your City Doesn’t Love You” caught my attention and soon I grew to really love this record. I talked with Alec about self-love and the themes of this album, sculpting my piece around treating ourselves and our loves like plants. We need water, time, and a whole lotta love.

I did not know it was Rocka Mag’s fourth birthday until two weeks after May 1. Even though I was late to my own game, I threw together a “roster.” The post was met with so much love on social media and just further confirmed that I get the pleasure of working with the best people.

Here are some upcoming dates for Michigander and Connor Kelly & the Time Warp:

This month’s playlist features tracks from dba James, Carter Ace, and Ruby Waters. Dba James is back from his previous project (Bay Faction), Carter is as great as ever, and I’m in love with Ruby. Any questions? These 25 songs have been on repeat for me, and I hope you like at least a couple.
If you’re a Rocka artist and want info to be included in next month’s newsletter, email/dm me. If you’re interested in hearing from me every once in a while, sign up! If you’re Ruby Waters, I’m available this weekend to hang out (I am 5’4” and love walks on the beach).
Rocka out,
Alexandra
